In the Edo period, the Oi River was known as the most difficult place on the Tokaido Road, and bridges and boats were not allowed. Travelers either had Kawagoe people shoulder to shoulder or crossed the river on a rendai like a mikoshi.
You can walk in kimono along the Kawagoe Highway, which reproduces the toll booth and waiting area of that time, learn about culture at the Shimada City Museum, and take a sip of green tea.
